Weekend Wrap Up - Sioux City Metros

Season Sweep!

Omaha, NE – Boom!  The smack down was laid this past weekend in the season series sweep of the Varsity Sioux City Metros.  The Omaha Junior Lancers travelled to Sioux City on Friday night for game 3 of the 4 game series and the first of two against the Metros for the weekend.  The varsity squad needed wins to solidify their playoff position for 5th overall in the Midwest High School Hockey League for the playoff tournament starting on February 28, 2014.

 

The Varsity team Friday night crushed the Metros 5 to 1.  Cole Childers, assisted by Cole Richter and Alex Casebeer, secured the first goal.  Cole Richter and AJ Odell each scored unassisted in period two.  Cody Petrie, assisted by Kyle Pane and Steven Woodward, and Alex Cooper, assisted by Brock Loser and Daniel Freestone rounded out the five goals.  Goalie Joey Schuld faced 17 shots for the win.

 

Saturday's game was a repeat performance of Friday's with a 6 to 1 win.  Mark Vlassakis started off the scoring with the only goal in the first period.  AJ Odell and Branden Maas assisted.  The team took command and controlled the second period and put away three goals in period two: Cole Richter, assisted by Gunnar Roswell and Cole Childers; KC Siwa assisted by Dan Freestone and Cole Richter; Branden Maas assisted by AJ Odell and Mark Vlassakis.  Rounding out the scoring in the third period were goals from AJ O’Dell with the helpers going to Branden Maas and Hunter Hurt the final goal of the night was chipped in by Cole Richter with Matt Bracciano and Gunnar Roswell assisting.  Goalie Joey Schuld took 20 shots for the back to back win.

 

The Junior Varsity team needed a win Friday night to stay one point up on the Kansas City Jets for second overall in the race for playoff positioning, however the boys could not pull out he win, however they didn’t lose either and battled to get the tie vs Sioux City 1-1.  Cody Walters scored assisted by Jesse Clark and Alex Casebeer.  Goalie Garreth Lewis-Reiter took 15 shots. 

 

With first place in the West division on the line and 2nd overall in the league the Junior Varsity squad came out in full force for a win of 4 to 1.  Cody Walters was a man on a mission and took what was his and put away 3 goals against the Metros; he was assisted on his first goal by Dalton Theisen and KC Siwa; Jesse Clark and KC Siwa on his second goal; and Jesse Clark and KC Siwa on his third goal. Dalton Theisen put away the fourth goal which was assisted by Braxdan Hatch and Steven Degnan.  Goalie Kevin Freestone took 37 shots for the win.  With the win the boys are currently tied with the Kansas City Jets for first place in the West Division, however as it stands the Jets hold the advantage based upon the head to head tie breaker.  Your Omaha Junior Lancer JV team still has a chance at first place in the West with a win over the Lincoln Junior Stars this Saturday combined with two losses for Kansas City by the Des Moines Oak Leafs.

 

Your Omaha Junior Lancers come home this Saturday (February 22nd) to face the Lincoln Junior Stars on Senior Night and for orange out.  Come out and support the seniors in their last home game of the regular season.

 

Junior Varsity plays at 3 pm and Varsity takes the ice right after at approximately 5 pm. All games will be scored live with PointStreak.

 

The Varsity team is in preparation to play in the 2014 USA Hockey High School Nationals presented by Toyota on March 26-30, 2014!
