USA Hockey requires that each first year official register with USA Hockey at www.usahockey.com, complete an open book test and attend a seminar to become a hockey official.
Once registered you can take an open book test on-line. Local seminars are usually held in August & September although a specific date/location has not been set yet. There are also seminars in Lincoln, Kearney and other surrounding hockey communities.
There is usually a small fee to attend to help cover ice time and administrative costs ($10 to $20 range). Games are scheduled via the Internet which allows referees to indicate their availability prior to the assignment. Work load is determined by demand, availability and level of official required.
