THE SERIES:
Omaha and Ames will continue their rivalry on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning in a series that dates back to the start of the Midwest High School Hockey League. The Junior Lancers look to build on the wins from last few seasons.

LAST MEETING:
The last time these two clubs met the Junior Lancers took the sweep in Ames winning 5-2 and 3-2 in varsity and junior varsity 7-0 and 4-0.  The Cyclones look to avenge those losses this weekend.

SCOUTING THE LITTLE CYCLONES:
Ames has struggled coming into the season managing only one win against the Lincoln Junior Stars at the varsity level.  The junior varsity team has bettered that record with an additional tie.  Both teams look to change their misfortune against the Junior Lancers and get back onto the winning path.  Ames is one of the least penalized teams in the league and need to be a little more aggressive as the season progresses or they run the risk of missing the playoffs again this season.

SCOUTING THE JUNIOR LANCERS:
The Junior Lancers varsity and junior varsity have look to extend one of their best starts in its program history with both clubs holding onto second place within their divisions and battling the Kansas City Jets for the top spot in their division.  Key players to watch for at the varsity level are Cole Richter (league leader with 20 points) and Mark Vlassakis (tied for 3rd in league scoring).  The junior varsity team boasts only one player in the top 10 scorers and that is Dalton Theisen (3 g-8 a); other players to watch are Devon Renault and Jesse Clark as they are hot on Dalton’s heels.  Omaha also has some of the top goalies in the league early on with a solid tandem of goalies at each level; Joe Schuld (3rd with 92.7 SV%) and Drew Perkins (8th with 88.2 SV%). At the JV level Kevin Freestone (tied for 1st with 90 SV%) with 5 starts and Garreth Lewis-Reiter (7th with 87 SV%) over his 4 starts on the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Junior Lancers have racked up a number of penalty minutes (254 PIM – avg 28.2 PIM per game) with the new rule changes this season, however they look to change that trend and stay out of the box against one of the least penalized team in the league (Ames has 98 PIM – avg 10 PIM per game).
