Our hockey community lost a young man that played hockey here in Omaha for several years.

Both games dedicated to the memory of Hans Alpsteg
Ribbons will be sold to raise funds for a memorial for the family

March 28, 1988 - January 4, 2011

Hans Erik Alpsteg, age 22, of Kearney, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be Monday, January 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney with Pastor Rob Kuefner and Pastor Duane Duley officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the Tri-City Optimist Youth Ice Hockey Association. Hans was born March 28, 1988 in Denver, Colorado to Hans Peter and Carol (Hill) Alpsteg. He grew up in Kearney and attended Windy Hills Elementary School. He attended High School in Elkhorn, at Millard West in Omaha and he graduated from Kearney High School in 2006. He attended college at University of Nebraska at Omaha where he majored in communications, and was appointed to the dean’s list in 2010. He also was involved with the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Hans played roller hockey for the Hastings Cyclones. Hans also played youth ice hockey in Kearney for the Thunder Cats and then in Omaha for the Jr. Lancers and then AAA Hockey for the Omaha Energy for 3 yrs. Hans had a true love and talent for arts and music.

Hans was preceded in death by his Father Hans in 2005, and his Maternal Grandparents.
