High School Hockey Season Ends – Tournament Up Next

 

AMES, Iowa - Sunday, February 26 | The Midwest High School Hockey League ended the 2016-2017 regular season this past weekend and now looks forward to the Varsity Championship Tournament, Friday, March 3 through Sunday, March 5 in Ames at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena. The Des Moines Capitals captured their second straight regular-season championship with a record of 25 wins, 1 loss, 1 overtime loss, and 1 shootout loss, and will be the tournament’s top seed.

 

The League’s top eight Varsity teams will square off Friday in four quarterfinal, single elimination games.

 

Game One: 12:00 noon - #4 Sioux City vs #5 Des Moines Oak Leafs
Game Two: 2:00 - #3 Waterloo vs #6 Kansas City
Game Three: 4:00 - #2 Omaha vs #7 Mason City
Game Four: 6:00 - #1 Des Moines Capitals vs #8 Ames

 

Quarterfinal winners advance to Saturday’s semifinal contests, with the winners squaring off in the championship game Sunday at 11:00 AM.

 

Mediacom’s MC22 broadcasting crew will be in Ames this year to televise Sunday’s Varsity Tournament Championship Game. Five cameras will broadcast the action throughout most of Iowa and the Mediacom eight-state network.

 

The Jr. Varsity Year-End Tournament begins Thursday, March 2 with four quarterfinal games and ends Saturday, March 4 with the championship game.

Game Two JV: 1:30 - #3 Waterloo vs #6 Dubuque
Game Three JV: 3:00 - #2 Kansas City vs #7 Des Moines Oak Leafs
Game Four JV: 4:30 - #1 Omaha vs #8 Des Moines Capitals
