High School Hockey All-Stars

AMES, Iowa – Monday, February 27 | Names of the 2016-2017 Midwest High School Hockey League All-Stars have been announced. (see list below) The All-Stars are selected by the League’s 12 head coaches. All-Stars will be introduced and presented certificates during ceremonies at the upcoming Varsity tournament. The announcement marks the end of the regular season and precedes the Varsity Championship Tournament Friday, March 3 through Sunday, March 5, in Ames at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena. The Des Moines Capitals captured the regular-season championship with a record of 25 wins, 1 loss, 1 overtime loss, and 1 shootout loss, and will be the top tournament seed. The Omaha Jr. Lancers earned the Jr. Varsity regular-season title.

The regular-season’s top eight Varsity teams take the ice Friday beginning at 12:00 noon with four quarterfinal, single elimination matchups. Winners of Saturday’s two semifinal contests advance to the championship game Sundayat 11:00 AM.

Mediacom’s MC22 broadcasting crew will be in Ames this year to televise Sunday’s Varsity Tournament Championship Game. Five cameras will broadcast the action throughout most of Iowa and the Mediacom eight-state network.

The MHSHL All-League Team and Coach-of-the-Year will be announced during Saturday’s Varsity regular-season awards ceremonies. Coaches vote to recognize the League’s top three forwards, two defensemen, goaltender, and the year’s most successful coach.

The JV tournament begins Thursday with four quarterfinal games and ends Saturday with the championship game.
