Testing Available 12/19/18

Hello Omaha Hockey Club Players/Parents:

Because your age/level of play (Bantam and older) it is recommended that players take a concussion baseline screening test.  This test establishes a baseline that can be used to measure impact effect of a head trauma indicative of concussion.

Dr Holly Roberts PhD (and fellow hockey mom) of the Munroe-Meyer Institute at UNMC is offering screening tests for Omaha Hockey Club Players aged 13 and over (Bantam level and above).

When:                 Wednesday, December 19 at 6:30 PM (tests take 30 minutes to complete)

Where:                 University of Nebraska at Omaha (6001 Dodge Street)

Cost:                      $5.00 per test (payable on the 19th – cash is preferred)

Additional Details:

  • Tests are valid for players at the Bantam level and above (Coaches are welcome to obtain a test too)
  • Test results are valid for 2 years and must be repeated after 2 years (unless a concussion is sustained)
  • You MUST NOT be physically active for 3 hours PRIOR to the test to ensure validity
  • In the event of a concussion, Dr Roberts will work with your/your child’s physician to review results

Why are Baseline ImPACT Tests Important?

The baseline ImPACT® test is a preseason physical of the brain for athletes, tracking information such as memory, reaction time, speed, and concentration. It’s not an IQ or full neuropsychological evaluation, but rather a tool that can be compared with a later ImPACT test taken after a suspected concussion. The preseason and post-injury test results will be considered by a physician, along with a neurological exam, balance testing, detailed medical history, and the input of those around the injured athlete, to assess an injury. It will also help your care team determine when return-to-play is appropriate and safe.

Directions to testing at UNO:Testing will occur in the Arts and Sciences Building (ASH) (indicated with a “2”) in room 304.  There are two maps attached to help you find ASH 304.  One map includes an overall UNO campus map (use the first map in in the 3 pages of maps titled “Dodge Campus Parking Map.”

The second map is zoomed in on ASH. One this map, you will find a red line that will guide you from Dodge to the parking lot on the east side of ASH.  Because classes are not in session, there is open parking at UNO and you can park in lot W that is directly adjacent to ASH. You can also park on the top of the parking garage that is also adjacent to ASH. You will enter the door of ASH that is next to the parking lot W (indicated with red circle).  Take the stairs to 3rd floor.

Feel free to drop your child at the door of ASH and have them walk straight up the stairs to ASH 304. ASH 304 will be at the top of the stairs.  If you get lost, please contact Holly Roberts (402-657-3324).
